iWild Ty Mawr
Ty Mawr Country Park lies on the banks of the River Dee in the beautiful Vale of Llangollen, part of the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are captive animals on site, but it was difficult to predict what wildlife we might capture here – the site is quite open and very popular.
Unfortunately, when we went back to collect the camera traps, we found that 3 had been stolen. This was a big blow to the project and we were extremely disappointed – it wasn’t just that the cameras were gone, but it meant we’d also lost the data from them. All 3 were down close to the river, which meant we now had no chance of uncovering otter.
The camera trap theft did however lead to some publicity for the project, even if it was in sad circumstances. BBC Wales News picked up the story, as did the Wrexham Leader. The news of the theft was shared from Ty Mawr’s facebook page over 400 times – but we received no tip-offs as to who might be responsible for the thefts.
However – we won’t let a few thieves deter us from discovering and sharing the wonderful Welsh wildlife as part of this project. We still had two cameras at Ty Mawr… the below video is what they found…!
